CHANTILLY, Va., November 8, 2023 – Amentum was awarded U.S. Department of State (DoS) Africa Peacekeeping Program (AFRICAP) task orders to provide complex training and development in Benin as well as design, engineering and build management in multiple locations throughout Somalia. This critical work, which began in October with $165 million in cumulative total value, will help bolster the capacity in Africa to fight extremist groups and protect national security.

“Our extensive training expertise navigating challenging environments in protection of national security makes us the premier partner to the DoS on the Trans-Sahara Counterterrorism Partnership for the Forces Armées Béninoises,” said Dr. Karl Spinnenweber, President of Amentum’s Critical Missions Group. “We also look forward to completing complex design and engineering projects around austere Somalian environments as a top partner to the DoS in Africa.”

On one task order, Amentum will deliver a complex training program to improve the capabilities of the Beninese Armed Forces in safeguarding national security through mobilization training, non-commissioned officer development, company-grade officer leadership management, train-the-trainer programs, and basic military training and field-base exercises.

Amentum will also complete a design and build project for permanent and sustainable bases for the Somalia National Army Danab in six priority locations. Amentum experts will utilize extensive knowledge of ground and environmental conditions through the design process to mitigate construction and build risks.

“Our success at managing challenging environments to complete complex projects critical to the preservation of national security helps us strengthen Africa’s protection capabilities,” said John Bozarth, Senior Vice President of Operations.

CHANTILLY, Va., October 19, 2023 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Baltimore District has awarded a contract to safely decommission and dismantle the SM-1A Reactor Facility to a team including Amentum. The standalone C-contract contract, with an estimated value of $95.5M over a 6-year ordering period, will integrate and leverage proven innovations to dispose of both hazardous and radioactive materials.

“As a global leader in environmental solutions, our experience in nuclear remediation is extensive,” said Mark Whitney, President of Amentum’s National Security Group. “Amentum will provide the Army Corps of Engineers with advanced engineering capabilities and solutions that have been successful at some of the most challenging environmental cleanup projects in the world.”

Under this new contract, the work will be performed at Fort Greely, Alaska and will include planning, permitting, and engineering, site preparation, demolition and disposal of facilities and components from the defueled nuclear reactor, related wells and utility corridors, and other ancillary facilities. The contract also includes remediation of contaminated soils, a final status survey, and site restoration.

The contract was awarded to the joint venture APTIM-Amentum Alaska Decommissioning, LLC (A3D). Other members of A3D’s team include Heritage – M2C1 Joint Venture, a HUBZone small business location in Delta Junction, AK; Lynden Logistics; Brice Environmental; Oak Ridge Technologies; ReNuke Services; AECOM Technical Services; and Delta Junction Medical.

“Our recent experience performing reactor decommissioning at Fort Belvoir and major U.S. Department of Energy sites will aid in the completion of the work safely and effectively at Fort Greely,” said Jim Blankenhorn, Amentum Senior Vice President of Environment & Security. “The expertise gained over decades of similar projects builds the Army Corps of Engineers’ confidence in our team to address the environmental challenge at Fort Greely.”

The SM-1A reactor achieved criticality in 1962 and was shut down in March of 1972, followed by the removal and disposition of the spent nuclear fuel in 1973. The primary mission of the single-loop, 20.2 megawatt-thermal pressurized water reactor was to establish a cold-weather nuclear power plant to support power to Fort Greely, with a secondary mission to study the economics of operating a nuclear electric power plant as compared to operating a conventional oil-fired system in a remote location.

An on-site kickoff meeting at Fort Greely will in late October 2023, paving the way for our preparatory work at the site.  The team is targeting a full mobilization to the site by mid-2024. Project completion is currently anticipated by 2029.  Project information can also be found on the USACE website www.nab.usace.army.mil/SM-1A/.

CHANTILLY, Va.; May 10, 2023 – Landmarc Support Services (Landmarc), an Amentum joint venture with Mitie, has been awarded a £560m contract to manage the UK land on which thousands of Armed Forces personnel train.

Under the contract, Landmarc will provide facilities management services, rural estate management and operational services on the UK Defence Training Estate, as well as delivering additional works with an estimated value of up to £800m, subject to annual reviews.

“We are thrilled to be awarded this new contract and build on 20 years of outstanding service delivery to ensure that the UK Defence Training Estate delivers safe and sustainable locations to train our Armed Forces,” said Mark Neill, Managing Director at Landmarc. “Every single one of our 1,300 strong team has had a part to play in providing the critical services that enable our Armed Forces to train effectively, deploy on operations and return home safely. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with DIO and working with its wider industry partners to transform the lived experience of Armed Forces personnel who use the Defence estate to live, work and train.”

The new contract will provide UK and visiting Armed Forces with a safe and secure place to live, work and train, while maintaining and improving the land, buildings and facilities that they use. The contract will also deliver vital services to training troops, including providing them with around four million meals a year and approximately one million bed spaces. It will introduce innovative, more responsive, and flexible services for personnel using the training estate and will be more agile to meet the changing needs of the Armed Forces.

The training estate covers around 1% of land in the UK and plays a crucial role in preparing UK and visiting troops for operations across the globe, including supporting the UK-based training of thousands of Ukrainian volunteer recruits.

The training estate includes training camps, range complexes and field firing areas, as well as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Special Conservation Areas. Much of the training estate is open to the public and this new contract will help to ensure that these important spaces are well maintained and are kept safe for both the public and the military to use.

“The new contract offers the opportunity to transform the way we manage our training areas. We have a good working relationship with Landmarc and I look forward to continuing our work with them to improve the training estate so that it meets the unique and ever-changing needs of our Armed Forces as well as offering a safe place for the public to visit,” said Brigadier Jonathan Bartholomew, Head DIO Overseas & Training Region.

The initial contract, awarded by the Defence Infrastructure Organization (DIO), is for seven years with the option to extend annually up to a further three years, based on contractor performance. It is due to come into service in December 2023.

GERMANTOWN, Md.; November 8, 2022 – Amentum’s Liberty Village team recently received the International Stability Operations Association’s Vanguard Global Achievement Award in recognition of overall outstanding achievement in stability, contingency, emergency response, disaster recovery, as well as the Amentum Athlon Award in recognition of the remarkable success delivered by the team.

In August of 2021, Amentum was awarded the task order, under the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) V contract vehicle, to build and sustain a village to house immigrants from Afghanistan. The urgent and compelling task order included a rapid build-up phase and a six-month sustainment period to create a community, dubbed Liberty Village, located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), N.J.

“Amentum was pleased to provide critical solutions for the Department of Homeland Security, USAID, Department of State, National Guard, New Jersey First Responders, Defense Logistics Agency, Air Force, Army NORTHCOM, Red Cross and non-profit organizations in their urgent needs to house and care for allies arriving from Afghanistan,” said Dr. Karl Spinnenweber, President of Amentum’s Critical Missions Group. “Our significant experience with rapid infrastructure implementation combined with humanitarian, transportation, housing, supply chain solutions, linguistics, residential support services, and expeditionary medical services ensured the government had a full range of scalable operations, life support and logistics capabilities to meet the immediate need.”

Major General Mark Camerer, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center Commander said, “You are building the airplane while flying it,” referring to Amentum’s skill in meeting the rapidly evolving requirements.

Soleiman Rahel, a Task Force Liberty governor, speaks with James Herlihy, services manager for Amentum, about a newly constructed dining facility in Liberty Village, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, Sept. 15, 2021. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. The 22.5-acre village received, housed, and transitioned more than 16,000 Afghan allies over its six-month lifespan, necessitating Amentum’s rapid land preparation and construction of 22 500-man tents and construction and management of four dining facilities.

“Through the Liberty Village project at JB MDL, we assisted the Operation Allies Welcome project in direct support of relocated Afghan immigrants, totaling more than 16,000 Afghans who successfully made it to the U.S. with more than 4.7 million meals served, 38 thousand bags of laundry processed, 9,300 MMR vaccines administered, and rapid procurement and distribution of basic supplies like toothbrushes, clothing, baby formula, and diapers provided,” said Rob Tillery, SVP Operations.

Ken Fox, SVP Operations who accepted the ISOA Vanguard award on behalf of Amentum, stated in his speech, “Considering Amentum’s proud legacies and hundreds of programs spanning dozens of agencies made crafting our award submission quite the project. Ultimately, we focused on the remarkable work we do throughout the world supporting so many embassies in challenging environments, what we do to provide safe and secure transportation to our nation’s leaders through the Executive Airlift program, the critical COVID alternative health care facility in Paramus, New Jersey constructed in a matter of days at the height of the pandemic, and finally about the special care that so many of our exceptional employees demonstrated toward our Afghan allies, partners and teammates, not only with the evacuations from Afghanistan, but then welcoming our friends to their new lives in the United States with grace, and dignity and appreciation for their struggle – work that remains ongoing to this day.”

“Our first-class team of professionals delivered outstanding performance from concept to clear-out in one short year,” said AFCAP lead and VP Operations Richard Hayes. “A big thank you to the team for their exceptional work and care for our Afghan allies throughout the management of this life-changing project.”

GERMANTOWN, Md.; April 21, 2022 – Amentum, a leading contractor to U.S. and allied governments, announced today it has achieved the ISO 45001:2018 standard established by the International Organization for Standardization. This standard recognizes organizations that aim to prevent work-related injury and provide safe, healthy workplaces for its employees.

Senior Occupational Health and Safety Manager for National Security Solutions Ralph Brugueras served as the lead auditor and developed the framework after detailed master hazard analysis at the Fredericksburg office.

“Amentum is showing yet another way that it can stand out as an industry leader by achieving the ISO 45001 certification,” Brugueras said. “This integration demonstrates our unwavering commitment to our employees and their own personal safety while simultaneously maintaining the highest quality service in the industry.”

Vice President of Counter Threat Solutions Will Todd approved the certification objective and currently serves as the chair of the safety steering committee at the Fredericksburg office. In addition, Safety Management Representative Kim Hayworth led the certification effort with antiterrorism and counterterrorism staff members addressing each set of standard requirements at the site.

The management system focuses on warehouse spaces, office cubicles and common areas such as hallways, break areas, lobby areas and parking lots. The Plan-Do-Check-Act feature improved the overall emergency response, enhanced existing health and safety training programs, offered effective personal protective equipment selection, and boosted awareness and enhanced overall safety culture for the team.

The ISO 45001:2018 provides an agenda that allows Amentum to identify threat and opportunity risk solutions. This certification serves as an icon of mastery in principles of occupational safety and health that is international recognized. Amentum is looking forward to seeing benefits such as improved employee safety and engaging more employees in safety from this achievement.
